Bypassing "Error applying transforms..." when updating BootCamp
Introduction
I've installed BootCamp services from the first CD that came with my MacPro. After a few days Apple Software update advised that a new update for BootCamp services was available but I couldn't install it because of an apparently not so uncomment message: "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.". This article describes how you can bypass this error and install the updates.
After strugling a while trying to install the new 2.1 update for BootCamp services on my Mac Pro running Vista 64 I finally did it by making a minor change in the registry. Apparently you need to ajust the Language token to a certain decimal value more about this further.
Solution
Please note that changing the registry is for expert users and executing this steps as stated it's the only way to perform this system change without further problems or side effects.
- Open the Registry editor, Start->on the Start Search textbox type "regedit"->Enter
- Search for BootCamp, Edit->Find->type Boot Camp Services->Enter
- Edit the Language D-WORD (32bit) -> Keep Hexadecimal selected -> type 409 (should be 1033 decimal)
- Re-run the installer
Now you should be able to successfully install BootCamp updates from Apple Software Update.
